Overview for Community Groups
Eastern
Horizons is a State Government Department of Housing and Works New Living
Project involving the City of Swan and other Government agencies.
Following
extensive community consultation three main areas of need were identified for
the area:
1.
Safety
and Security (people and their property)
2.
Amenity
and Aesthetics (appearance and the provision of facilities)
3.
Community
Development (community activities and community ownership)
Project
activities are underway and encompass these works:
§
Infrastructure
Work (new and refurbished parks, streetscapes, street lighting)
§
House
and Land Refurbishments (carried out by MPM using subcontractors)
§
Community
Development (through an officer located at Hooley House)
Midland
Project Management Pty Ltd (MPM) is the project manager for the project.
MPM are
currently employing Hills Community Support Group and Koongamia Community
Sporting Club as subcontractors, doing property maintenance, landscaping, and
clean-ups on DHW property.
Housing
Minister Tom Stephens has welcomed the involvement of the community in the
Eastern Horizons New Living project and says there is room for more community
groups to be involved in the $19.5 million refurbishment of the Midland,
Midvale, Koongamia and parts of Swan View project. Minister Stephens has said that “New Living
is about creating vital, safe new neighbourhoods from some of the tired old
public housing areas across WA and to do this community involvement in needed”.
In the future,
MPM are hoping to engage community groups in more works than at present.
The sorts of
services MPM need include Site Cleanups, Mowing, Carpentry, Painting, Plumbing, Electrical, Cabinet
Work, Landscaping, Fencing, Builders Cleans, Maintenance Cleans and Security.
