Project Overview for Community Groups

Eastern Horizons is a State Government Department of Housing and Works New Living Project involving the City of Swan and other Government agencies.

Following extensive community consultation three main areas of need were identified for the area:

1.            Safety and Security (people and their property)

2.            Amenity and Aesthetics (appearance and the provision of facilities)

3.            Community Development (community activities and community ownership)

Project activities are underway and encompass these works:

§         Infrastructure Work (new and refurbished parks, streetscapes, street lighting)

§         House and Land Refurbishments (carried out by MPM using subcontractors)

§         Community Development (through an officer located at Hooley House)

Midland Project Management Pty Ltd (MPM) is the project manager for the project.

MPM are currently employing Hills Community Support Group and Koongamia Community Sporting Club as subcontractors, doing property maintenance, landscaping, and clean-ups on DHW property.

Housing Minister Tom Stephens has welcomed the involvement of the community in the Eastern Horizons New Living project and says there is room for more community groups to be involved in the $19.5 million refurbishment of the Midland, Midvale, Koongamia and parts of Swan View project.  Minister Stephens has said that “New Living is about creating vital, safe new neighbourhoods from some of the tired old public housing areas across WA and to do this community involvement in needed”.

In the future, MPM are hoping to engage community groups in more works than at present.

The sorts of services MPM need include Site Cleanups, Mowing, Carpentry, Painting, Plumbing, Electrical, Cabinet Work, Landscaping, Fencing, Builders Cleans, Maintenance Cleans and Security.
